About Duo Universal Prompt
This article contains information about the Duo Universal Prompt update which started in summer 2023.
What has changed?
The Duo two-factor authentication prompt will now appear on a new Duo authentication page, rather than being embedded in a login page.
Eventually all campus applications will use the Duo universal prompt, but IT is rolling out this change to each application separately.
Which campus applications are impacted?
The following applications are scheduled to move to Duo universal prompt:
- Microsoft apps and authentication for faculty, staff, and students (June 22nd, 2023 at 9am)
- Duo self-service application for faculty, staff, and students (TBD)
- Campus portal for faculty, staff, and students (July 13th, 2023 at 9am)
What browsers support Duo universal prompt?
- Google Chrome 38 & above
- Mozilla Firefox 47 & above
- Safari 9 & above
- Microsoft Edge 17 & above
How is Duo universal prompt different?
New Duo authentication page
The new Duo universal prompt will automatically send a push notification to your default mobile device, but you can click on Other options to authenticate with another device or use another method to authenticate (e.g., text, passcode, phone call).
Save your authentication for 14 days by choosing Yes, this is my device.
When you choose Yes, this is my device, your Duo authentication will be saved for 14 days.
Note that as IT is rolling out Duo universal prompt, you may have to authenticate again with Duo for different campus applications (e.g., authenticating with Duo for your campus Microsoft account does not mean that you will not get a Duo prompt when you log in to the campus portal).
