Using the Live Captioning Feature in Zoom

This article covers how to enable and use the live captioning feature in Zoom.

Hosts: you'll need to enable the live captioning feature BEFORE starting your meeting in order to use it during your meeting.

2. Click on the Settings menu on the left. Under Meeting, click on In Meeting (Advanced) or scroll down to the In Meeting (Advanced) section.

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Then click In Meeting (Advanced). Or you can scroll down to the In Meeting (Advanced) section.

3. Locate the Closed Captioning feature. If slider next to Closed Captioning is not enabled, click on the slider to enable the feature. Then place a checkmark next to Enable live transcription service to show transcript on the side panel in-meeting.

  1. Make sure that the Closed Captioning feature is enabled by checking that the slider is blue.
  2. Place a checkmark next to Enable live transcription service to show transcript on the side panel in-meeting.

4. Click Save.

5. You will see a confirmation message at the top of the screen that your changes have been saved.

1. After starting the meeting, click Live Transcript.

2. Click Enable Auto-Transcription.

3. Click the x to close the menu.

Note that if you want to disable the auto-transcription, you will return to Live Transcript and click Disable Auto-Transcription.

4. As soon as you or another person in the meeting starts speaking, you will see a transcription appear above the bottom menu.

5. Participants will see a notification that a live transcript is available, but you may want to verbally let them know captions are available and/or put the information into the chat.

For the best results, only one person should speak at a time and each person should try to speak slowly and clearly.

1. When you join a meeting where a live transcript is available, you will see a notification above the Live Transcript button. Click Live Transcript.

Even if you don't see the live transcript notification, you can click Live Transcript to see if one is available.

2. Choose Show Subtitle.

3. You'll now see live captions when anyone in the meeting (including you) speak.

4. Want to change the size of the captions? Click Live Transcript and click Subtitle Settings.

5. Use the slider to adjust the size of the captions.

Notice there are additional accessibility options on this screen that you can modify.

6. Then click the x to close the window. Captions will now appear in your preferred size.
