How To Log Into Sumtotal Back-End
These instructions cover how to log into the Back-End of a user's Sumtotal account.
- Back-End access is intended for scenarios where you may need to look into the progress of a user's training or launch the training for technical assistance.
- Emulation mode is used for general functions such as seeing the trainings in an employee's Assigned Learning, registering to a training, and seeing their transcript history.
Any activity done in back-end will record as the user.

Start on the Employee Training Center (ETC) Dashboard.
Click the Magnifier Glass icon on the upper right-hand corner of the ETC Dashboard.
The screen will refresh to the Search page.
Click on the Learning dropdown button.
Select People in the Learning Dropdown menu.
Type the user's name in the Search field.
The screen will populate with relevant search results.
Click on the Preview Dropdown Menu button.
Select Admin Profile.
The screen will refresh to the Overview page for the user.
Click on Personal.
Under Personal, select User Account and Personal Details.
The page will refresh to show the user's Login Name information under Account Details.
Copy the text in the Login Name field.
Paste the copied Login Name text into the Password field.
Click on the Save button in the bottom-right corner of the page.
A message indicating "Form successfully saved" will pop up.
Click on the Close button.
In a separate window, open the Sumtotal Backend page.
Paste the Login Name text you copied into the Username and Password field.
Click on the Sign In button.
- Launching a training in Back-end will record any progress as the user.
- You should never take a training for a user.
