Where do students apply?

Apply for the CalVet Fee Waiver at their local California Veterans Service Office. (Refer to CFVW Resource list in Drop box for website links to each surrounding county.)

How do you use the Cal Vet Fee Waiver at CSUF?

Submit a copy of your current Academic Year Fee Waiver Approval Letter from the California Veterans Services Office directly to us via email at [email protected].

In the email please be sure to include the your full name, CSUF ID number (CWID), CSUF email address, and phone number.

How long is the Cal Vet Fee Waiver valid for?

The Cal Vet Fee Waiver is approved by the Cal Vet county office for a particular academic year. In the case of our current academic year (2021-2022), the fee waiver would be automatically applied to the state tuition for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021.

I have been approved for the Cal Vet Fee Waiver, but I still see a balance on my account and fees are due. What do I do?

Please ensure that you have provided a copy of your Cal Vet Fee Waiver approval to the CSUF Veterans Resource Center via email at [email protected]

Does the Cal Vet Fee Waiver cover Summer or Winter sessions?

Winter Sessions: No.

Summer Sessions: No*.

*Certain Programs that "require" attendance during the summer sessions may be covered under the waiver. Please contact us at [email protected] to verify if your program is covered.

Important Notes
  • Student is responsible for campus-based fees and other fees not covered by the CalVet Fee Waiver. For information on "campus-based fees", please google search or refer to CSUF Tuition and Fees .
  • The fee waiver must be applied for every academic year. Veterans Services Offices will typically open up applications in mid-April.
  • CalVet Fee Waiver does not cover Winter and only covers Summer for certain programs. Please consult with the Advising Coordinator at the VRC for the list of programs covered by the waiver during the summer semester.
  • CalVet Fee Waiver can only be used for state-supported programs; it cannot be used for programs and courses administered under Extension and International Programs (EIP) and Open University.
Receiving Cal Vet Fee Waiver for processing (email)

1. Ensure the student is enrolled in CSUF (By verifying CWID), Verify the approval letter is applicable to the current academic year and the students name is spelled correctly.

2. Verify that we do not already have the students approval letter in the "10 - 2021 -2022 Cal Vet Fee waiver" folder. If so, verify that the letter is identical to the one they sent in.

3. Save the attached approval letter in the "10 - 2021 -2022 Cal Vet Fee waiver" folder in dropbox. File name should resemble this format: "Puller, Chesty - 884655991 - 2021-2022".

4.  Input student information in Cal Vet Fee Waiver 2021-2022 spreadsheet in Dropbox. (student information can be found in 'General Info' in CMS.) If the student had a temporary waiver, replace "temp" with the CVFW plan type (A,B,C,D,) and change the date to "new".

5. After successfully completing the steps mentioned above, respond to the students email confirming receipt and processing of the Cal Vet fee Waiver. Kindly remind the student to pay their campus based fees not covered by the CVFW prior to their due date to prevent enrollment issues.

Receiving Cal Vet Fee Waiver for processing (physical hand-in)

1. Ensure the student is enrolled in CSUF (By verifying CWID), Verify the approval letter is applicable to the current academic year and the students name is spelled correctly.

2. Verify that we do not already have the students approval letter in the "10 - 2021 -2022 Cal Vet Fee waiver" folder. If so, verify that the letter is identical to the one they handed in.

3. Scan the approval letter and email it to [email protected]. Return the document to the student and let them know to keep it safe in their records end kindly remind them to pay their campus based fees prior to the payment deadline.

4. Once the scanned copy of the letter is in the inbox, save the attached approval letter in the "10 - 2021 -2022 Cal Vet Fee waiver" folder in dropbox. File name should resemble this format: "Puller, Chesty - 884655991 - 2021-2022".

5. Input student information in Cal Vet Fee Waiver 2021-2022 spreadsheet in Dropbox. (student information can be found in 'General Info' in CMS.) If the student had a temporary waiver, replace "temp" with the CVFW plan type (A,B,C,D,) and change the date to "new".
