Setting Up Your iPad (CEDA)

This article shows students how to set up the iPad they received from CEDA.

Getting Started with Your iPad

1. Swipe up on the welcome screen to begin setup.

2. Tap your preferred language.

3. Select United States as the Country or Region.

4. Select how you would like text and icons to appear on the iPad.

  1. Use the slider to select whether you want default, medium, or large text and icons.
  2. Tap Continue.

5. Proceed by selecting another device to transfer data from or continue without additional setup.

  1. If you want to transfer data from another device, make sure that device's Bluetooth is turned on and select it from the found devices. View instructions on Apple Quick Start.
  2. Click Set Up Without Another Device to setup the device manually.

6. Select a network to connect to.

It may take a few minutes to activate your iPad after connecting to a network.

6.1.2. Enter your student email address (e.g. [email protected]) and password. Then, tap Join.

  1. Enter your CSUF email and password.
  2. Tap Join.
6.1.3. Tap Trust to connect security to the campus network. It may take a few moments to connect.

6.2.1. Select any available (and secure) wireless network.

  1. Select the network you want to connect to.
  2. Enter the password, if applicable. Then, tap Join.

7. You can either transfer your apps and data from the cloud or another device or continue without transferring anything.

  1. Tap From iCloud backup to transfer data from the cloud. View instructions on transferring apps and data from your iCloud backup.
    OR
  2. Tap From Mac or PC to transfer data from a computer. View instructions on transferring apps and data from a Mac or PC.
    OR
  3. Tap From Android to transfer data from an Android device. View instructions on transferring apps and data from an Android.
    OR
  4. Tap Don't Transfer Anything to continue without getting your existing apps and data onto the iPad.

8. Tap Enroll this iPad. It may take a few moments to configure the iPad.

9. You can set up Touch ID by tapping Continue. To skip for now, tap Set Up Touch ID Later.

  1. Click Continue if you'd like to set up Touch ID now. You will be prompted to add a fingerprint. View instructions on setting up Touch ID.
  2. Click Set Up Touch ID Later if you'd like to proceed without setting up Touch ID. Tap Don't Use when asked if you're sure you don't want to use Touch ID.

10. Enter a six-digit passcode. Re-enter the passcode when prompted.

11. Sign in to your Apple account. If you don't have an Apple ID, forgot your password, or don't want to sign in at this time, tap Forgot password or don't have an account?

  1. Enter the email or phone number associated with your Apple account.
    OR
  2. Tap Forgot password or don't have an account? if you don't want to sign in with an Apple account at this time. When prompted, select whether you forgot your password, want to create an Apple account, or want to set your account up later.

12. Select your preferred display appearance. Then, tap Continue.

  1. Select whether you prefer light, dark, or auto display.
  2. Tap Continue.

Yes. You can sign in to the App Store using your personal Apple ID to install new apps.

Expand or collapse content How do I use Notability for note-taking?

The Notability app will be preloaded onto the iPad. When you first sign in, there will be a brief video tutorial on how to use Notability that we recommend you view.

Getting Started with Notability

From the home screen you can set up your notebooks to take typed or handwritten notes, import and annotate PDFs and other file formats, share links, and more.

To access your settings, tap the gear icon on the top left. From there you can set up auto-backup and cloud syncing, link accounts, and customize your note-taking defaults.

Career Coach empowers you to discover your career path, grow real-world skills, and build your network. You’ll get guidance that is personalized to your education, skills, and interests.

To access Career Coach, open the Microsoft Teams app and sign in with your student email address and password if prompted. You’ll see the Career Coach icon at the left of the screen.
