Whiteboard Apps for Faculty

This article compiles a list of apps with whiteboard capability that are available to CSUF faculty.

This is not an exhaustive list, but contains the main apps that allow faculty to save the information on their whiteboards.

Microsoft Whiteboard

What is it?

Microsoft Whiteboard is a whiteboard app that is available with the CSUF Microsoft Office license for faculty, staff, and students.

Features

  • Available on PC, iOS, and web browser
  • Can hand write notes or type them
  • Can share whiteboards with students to give them view or edit access
  • Can export whiteboard as image or send it to Microsoft OneNote

Yes.

How do I get it?

Visit the Microsoft Whiteboard site to download the PC or iOS app. Or view the Microsoft Whiteboard web browser app.

Microsoft OneNote

What is it?

Microsoft OneNote is a note-taking app that is available with the CSUF Microsoft Office license for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Available on PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and web browser
  • Can hand write notes or type them
  • Can share note or notebook with students to give them view or edit access
  • Can export note or notebook as PDF to share with students

Yes.

How do I get it?

Visit the Microsoft OneNote download page to access OneNote on the web or download the OneNote app.

Dropbox Paper

Although Dropbox Paper is available on multiple devices, the whiteboard feature is only available for iPad.

What is it?

Dropbox Paper is a tool that allows multiple Dropbox users to collaborate on a single document. CSUF faculty, staff, and students can access Dropbox Paper by creating a CSUF Dropbox account.

  • Dropbox Paper is available on web browser, iOS, iPad OS, and Android
  • Whiteboard feature is only available on iPad OS
  • Can share Paper document with students and allow them to comment/share or edit/comment/share
  • Can export Paper document to PDF to share with students

Yes.

How do I get it?

To get a CSUF Dropbox account, visit the CSUF Dropbox for Business website.

If you already have a CSUF Dropbox account, you can access the Paper menu in your Dropbox account or go directly to the Dropbox paper site.

iPad Notes app

Although the Notes app is also available on iPhone, it is not recommended for use as a whiteboard.

What is it?

The iPad Notes app is a note-taking app that is installed by default on all Apple iPads.

Features

  • Available on iPad
  • Can hand write notes or type them
  • Can export note as image or PDF to share with students

Real-time collaboration available?

No.

How do I get it?

Full-time faculty at CSUF are eligible for a campus-issued iPad through the campus rollout program.
