Saving & Uploading Files in CSUF Appstream (AWS)

This article covers how CSUF students can save their files in OneDrive, Google Drive, or on a local computer/laptop when using CSUF Appstream (AWS) to access virtual lab software. It also covers how to upload files to CSUF Appstream.

What do you want to do?

Add Google Drive or OneDrive to my CSUF Appstream

1. Click on the folder button to access My Files. Then click Add Storage.

1. Click OneDrive to connect your CSUF OneDrive account.

2. Choose @csu.fullerton.edu to sign in with your CSUF student account.

If you are faculty/staff, choose @ad.fullerton.edu to sign in with your faculty/staff account.

3. Enter your CSUF student email address and password. Then click Sign In.

4. Click Accept.

5. Your OneDrive will now show up as a place to save your files.

1. Click Google Drive to connect your CSUF Google Drive account.

2. Choose @csu.fullerton.edu to sign in with your CSUF student account.

If you are faculty/staff, choose @ad.fullerton.edu to sign in with your faculty/staff account.

3. Enter your CSUF student username and password. Then click Sign In.

4. Choose your CSUF account from the list.

6. Your Google Drive will now show up as a place to save your files.

Save a file to Google Drive or OneDrive

These steps show saving a Microsoft Project file, but these steps work for other applications in AWS.

1. Choose Save As and then click Browse to choose where to save the file.

  1. Click Save As (or the equivalent in the application you're using).
  2. Then click Browse to choose where to save the file.

2. Click on This PC in the left panel to expand it. Then choose Google Drive or OneDrive.

  1. Click on This PC in the left panel.
  2. Then select either Google Drive or OneDrive.

Do NOT try to save your file in the OneDrive or Google Drive main folder. You must navigate to OneDrive > Files or Google Drive > My Drive before saving the files or you will get an error.

  1. Navigate to where you want to save the file in OneDrive or Google Drive.
  2. Give your file a name.
  3. Then click Save.

4. You're done! The file will now synchronize to your OneDrive or Google Drive. You can also navigate to it under My Files to open it later using CSUF Appstream.

Save a file to my local computer/laptop

"Local computer" refers to the physical computer/laptop that you are using. You can follow the instructions below if you want to save files to your local computer rather than using Google Drive or OneDrive.

Note that the screenshots below show saving AutoCAD and Microsoft Word files, but these steps are similar in other apps.

1. Click Save or Save As in the app you are using.

2. Click on the Desktop button.

If you don't see a Desktop button, skip to step 3.

3. Double click on This PC.

4. Double click on the Temporary Files folder.

5. Click Save.

You may want to rename the file to something that is easy for you to remember.

6. Click on My Files in the toolbar above the app menu.

7. Click on the Temporary Files folder.

8. Place a checkmark next to the file you want to download to your local computer.

You will only see files for the specific app you are using (e.g., only AutoCAD files if you are using AutoCAD, only Word files if you are using Microsoft Word).

9. Click on the Actions menu and select Download.

10. Depending on your web browser, you may be prompted to download the file or it may automatically download to your Downloads folder. You can now move the file to where you want to save it on your local computer/laptop.

Upload a file to my CSUF Appstream

If you have an existing file that you want to upload to CSUF Appstream to view/edit, follow the steps below to upload it to CSUF Appstream.

Note that the screenshots below show uploading AutoCAD and Microsoft Word files, but these steps are similar in other apps.

1. Click on My Files.

2. Click on Temporary Files.

3. Click Upload file(s).

5. Click on the x to close this window when the file has been uploaded.

6. Click on the open button (or similar) to open the file you uploaded.

7. Click Desktop or Browse (depending on the app).

8. Double click on This PC.

9. Double click on the Temporary Files folder.

10. Place a checkmark next to the file you uploaded. Then click Open.

11. The file is now open and you can view/edit the file as needed.
