Setting Up Your MacBook

This article shows employees how to set up their campus rollout Mac laptop for the first time.

These screenshots were taken on a MacBook Air on MacOS Tahoe.

1. Click the Continue button.

2. Select your preferred language. Then, click the arrow at the bottom right of the screen to proceed.

  1. Select a language.
  2. Click the arrow to continue.

3. Select United States as your Country/Region. Then, click Continue.

  2. Click Continue.

4. Select Set up as new. Then, click Continue.

Do not transfer data at this time. You can transfer your information after completing setup and logging into the desktop.

  1. Select Set up as new. Do not select other options at this time.
  2. Click Continue.

5. Click an Accessibility feature category and select the feature(s) that you wish to turn on. Click Continue when you're done. If you do not wish to activate any accessibility features at this time, click Not Now.

If you click any of the categories to view them, the Not Now button will change to Continue regardless of whether or not you activate any accessibility settings.

  1. Click Vision to activate features such as VoiceOver, Zoom, Hover Text, Increase Contrast, etc.
  2. Click Motor to activate features such as Accessibility Keyboard.
  3. Click Hearing to activate features such as Closed Captions and Flash for alerts.
  4. Click Cognitive to activate features such as Light/Dark Mode, Speak Selection, and Typing Feedback.
  5. Click Not Now/Continue to proceed with the setup.

6. Connect to a network.

Select eduroam from the list of networks. Click Continue.

  1. Select eduroam.
  2. Click Continue.

Enter your campus email address and password and click OK.

Remember to check Remember this information so you don’t have to manually connect to this network in the future.

  1. Enter your full campus email address (e.g. [email protected]) and password.
  2. Click OK.

Click Continue to verify the server certificate.

Select any available (and secure) wireless network.

  1. Select the network you want to connect to.
  2. Enter the network password as prompted.
  3. Click Join.

7. Review the Device Management information. Then, click Enroll.

8. Review the Single Sign-On for Mac information. Then, click Continue.

9. You'll be prompted to register your device with Microsoft Entra. Enter your campus email address. Then, click Next.

  2. Click Next.

10. Enter your campus password. Then, click Sign in.

11. Enter your campus email address and your campus password. Then, click Continue.

  2. Enter your campus password.
  3. Click Continue.

12. Select the account you want to use to sign in to Safari with single sign-on.

Do not opt out of single sign on.

13. Enter your campus password. Then, click Sign in.

14. Click Continue to generate a Duo notification.

15. You will be prompted to verify with Duo.

16. Your device will take a few moments to set up.

17. Your CSUF username and password will be used as your Mac account information. You can add/change your user picture and add a password hint if you choose to. Click Continue to proceed with setup.

  1. (OPTIONAL) You can click the plus sign to add/select a new user picture or you can choose one of the other icons shown.
  2. Your username and password will be determined by your CSUF user credentials. You will not be able to edit these fields.
  3. (OPTIONAL) You can add a password hint.
  4. Click Continue.

18. Set your time zone automatically by turning on location services or set the time manually by selecting your closest city. Then, click Continue.

  1. Set the time zone automatically using your current location. Note that this requires enabling location services.
    OR
  2. Select your closest city from the drop-down menu (CSUF: Anaheim, CA.)
  3. Click Continue.

19. It will take approximately 10 minutes to install standard applications (e.g., Outlook, Chrome, Zoom) and settings on your device. When installation is complete, the Software Center will open. From there, you can install additional software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Dropbox, Teams, etc.

After installation is complete, you can transfer data from another device if needed.
