Students: Setting Up Duo Mobile App on Your Mobile Device
This article covers how students can set up the Duo app on their mobile device to receive push notifications to authenticate with Duo two-factor authentication.
These instructions show setting up an Apple iPhone, but the instructions are similar for other devices.
1. Download and install the Duo Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on your mobile device.
2. Open a web browser on a computer or laptop to the CSUF Duo Devices Management website.
You will need to take a picture of a QR code with your mobile device as part of this process, so you can't use your mobile device to access the Duo Devices Management website.
Open your web browser to the CSUF Duo Devices Management website.
3. Enter your campus username and password. Check the I'm not a robot box. Answer the CAPTCHA question if prompted. Then click Login.
- Enter your campus username.
- Enter your campus password.
- Place a checkmark next to I'm not a robot. If prompted, answer the CAPTCHA question.
- Click Login.
5. Click Need help? at the bottom of the authentication notification.
Do NOT approve the push notification or authenticate with Duo in another way at this time.
Do you currently have a mobile phone connected to Duo?
2. If you have the same number as before, click Text me a link. If you have a different phone number now, click I got a new number.
- Select Text me a link if your new phone has the same number.
- Select I got a new number if you changed your phone number.
Which did you select?
2. A browser window will open on your mobile device. Tap Open in the prompt to open the page in Duo Mobile.
3. Enter a name for the CSU Fullerton account. Then, tap Save.
The account name will default to CSU Fullerton. Changing the account name is not required.
- Enter a new name for the CSU Fullerton account or leave it as is.
- Click Save.
5. Go back to the Duo Devices Management page on your computer. You should see a confirmation that your mobile phone was added. Click Continue.
2. Choose how you want to authenticate with Duo and complete the authentication. Be sure you have the device available!
5. Enter your mobile phone number. Then, click Add phone number.
Click I have a tablet if you are adding a tablet. The steps will be similar to the ones for adding a mobile phone.
- Enter your mobile phone number.
- Click Add phone number.
7. If prompted with the Confirm ownership message, select how you would like to receive your passcode.
The Confirm ownership message appears when your phone number is already associated with an account in Duo. For example, if you are both staff and a student, you can link both your faculty/staff Duo account and your student Duo account with the same phone number.
If you are not aware of your phone number being associated with another Duo account, immediately contact the Student IT Help Desk at [email protected] or 657-278-8888.
- Select Send me a passcode to receive a text with a verification code.
- Select Or call my phone to receive your passcode via phone call.
8. If you haven't already downloaded the Duo mobile app, you can use the links on the Download Duo Mobile screen. Then click Next.

1. Open the Duo mobile app on your mobile phone. Tap Add.
You may see a setup wizard when you open the Duo app; if so, just follow the prompts!
6. Modify the Account name if you wish. Then tap Save or Done.
- You can modify the Account name if you wish or leave it as is.
- Click Save.
9. Go back to the Duo Devices Management page. You should see a confirmation that your mobile phone was added. Click Continue.
3. On a device that you've downloaded the Duo Mobile app on, open the email from Duo. Then, tap or click the activation link.
