What to Expect with Automox
This article covers the changes and notifications that campus users can expect with the Automox security maintenance tool.
Overview
Automox is an application used to manage and automate software updates on campus computers. It provides a more integrated and automated approach to keeping devices up to date.
- Automox appears in your computer's taskbar for easy access and automatically checks for required updates, eliminating the need to use Microsoft Update or Mac Software Update.
- When updates require a restart of your computer, a pop-up window displays the deadline for installation, allowing you to choose the most convenient time to install the updates.
- If updates are not installed by the due date, Automox will automatically restart the computer to complete the process.

Automox App in Taskbar
You'll notice a new orange F icon in your taskbar. This is the Automox app. Clicking on the app will open a pop-up window that shows if any required updates are needed.
What do I need to do?
1. When you see a pop-up from Automox, be sure to note the due date to restart your computer. Make a plan to restart your computer before the due date.
If you do not restart your computer by the due date, the computer will automatically restart after a short warning. Any unsaved work may be lost.
2. Save & close any open files, and close all apps on your computer. Then click Restart Now when you are ready to install the updates.
Note that you must use the Restart Now button in Automox to restart your computer in order to apply the required updates.
If the Restart Required notification has disappeared, you can click on the F icon in your taskbar to open Automox.
