Accessing Microsoft Copilot AI Tool

This article covers how CSUF faculty, staff and students can access the Microsoft Copilot AI tool on the web, on Windows 11 desktops, and on mobile devices.

Choose how you are accessing Microsoft Copilot:

Copilot on the web

1. Open a web browser to the Microsoft Copilot website.

2. Click Sign In.

3. Select Sign in with a work or school account.

4. Enter your campus email address and then click Next.

  1. Enter your campus email address (e.g., [email protected] or [email protected]).
  2. Then click Next.

5. Enter your campus password. Then click Sign In.

Your campus email address should automatically populate, but if not, you can type it in.

  1. Enter your campus password.
  2. Then click Sign In.

6. You will be prompted to authenticate with Duo.

Remember you can use Other options to choose another way to authenticate with Duo.

7. Click Yes if you want to stay signed in to reduce the number of times you are asked to sign in.

8. Select the preferred conversation style, enter the prompt into the text box and then click the paper airplane Submit icon.

  1. Check for the Protected label to make sure you are using the correct account.
  2. Select the preferred conversation style.
  3. Enter the prompt into the text box.
  4. Click the paper airplane Submit icon.

9. Review the Microsoft Copilot Term of Use and Privacy. Click Accept.

Copilot on your Windows 11 desktop

1. Click the Microsoft Copilot icon on your task bar.

Copilot in Windows is currently available as a preview. Microsoft is continuing to experiment with new ideas and methods using user feedback.

2. On the Microsoft Copilot window, select the preferred conversation style, enter the prompt into the text box and then click the paper airplane Submit icon.

  4. Click the paper airplane Submit icon.
Copilot on your mobile devices

These instructions mostly use screenshots from an Apple iPhone, but the steps are similar for Android devices.

1. Search and download the Microsoft Copilot app in the appropriate App Store for your device.

2. Launch the Microsoft Copilot app and personalize your settings.

2.1. Select one of the options for activity tracking across apps and websites.

3. Click Continue to access the Microsoft Copilot app.

4. On the Microsoft Copilot app home screen, click Sign in.

Signing into Microsoft Copilot allows you to ask more questions and have longer conversations.

6. Select an existing account OR add an account.

  1. Select an existing Microsoft account if you are already signed into other Microsoft services OR
  2. Select Add account

7. If Add account was selected, enter your campus email address and click Next.

8. Click the back arrow to go back to the app home screen.

9. You are now signed into Microsoft Copilot, and the application is ready for use.

Check for the Protected label to make sure you are using the correct account.
