Requesting and Activating NVivo

This article covers how faculty, staff, and students can request and activate NVivo.

Step 1: Create a NVivo Account

Use you campus email address ( or, but do NOT use your campus password.  Please select a new password when creating your account.  

If you have already created a NVivo account with your campus email address, proceed to Step 2.

1. Open the NVivo Software page

  1. Go to the NVivo Software page
  2. Click on Create a NVivo Account

2. Sign up for a NVivo account

  1. Click on Sign up now
  2. Create your NVivo account using your CSUF email address - do NOT use your CSUF password, select a new password
    1. You will need to send a verification code to your CSUF email address to complete the sign-up process

Step 2: Get NVivo License

1. Open the NVivo Software page

  1. Go to the NVivo Software page
  2. Click on Get NVivo License

2. Login with your CSUF username and password

3. Review and agree to the End User License Agreement (EULA)

  1. Agree to End User License Agreement by clicking on the check box
  2. Click on Claim NVivo software license key

4. Your order will be completed and the license key will be issued

The license key will also be sent to your CSUF email account

Step 3: Activate & Download NVivo

1. Open the NVivo Software page

  1. Go to the NVivo Software page
  2. Click on Activate & Download NVivo License

2. Login with your NVivo Account

3. Enter the license key

  1. Enter the license key you got from Step 2.  You can also refer back to the email you received.
  2. Click on Submit

4. Activation complete

  1. You will see a confirmation message once your license key has been activated on your NVivo account
  2. You can download NVivo now or wait for the confirmation email, which will also contain detailed download & installation instructions.

5. Download NVivo

  1. You will get an email with instructions on how to download and install NVivo
  2. Select your operating system - Windows or Mac

6. Installation Completed

In order to fully activate your downloaded software, you will need to login with your NVivo account and apply the CSUF license to your application.  If this step is skipped, your application will remain as a trail and not be fully licensed.

  1. After you have installed NVivo, open the software and login to activate your application
    1. You will be redirected to the NVivo login page
  2. Click on California State University Fullerton
  3. Your software is now ready to use
